The Aussies were landed about 2 miles from their intended position because of several reasons -
    1. They were navagating in darkness and the equipment was not as sopisticated as today.
    2. They (I refer to the Poms) did not factor the tides and rips in.
    3. The Poms led the operation. So while there were English tourists, I mean soliders, brewing tea up a few hundered metres away, the Aussies were getting massacred. The Poms didn't let their be an Aussie officer above the rank or major or captain, I think.
